The original and best HydroCourt system.

Self-regulating irrigation

HydroCourt is a self-regulating system, fully adjustable to player preferences, designed to water your tennis court from beneath the surface.

HydroCourts are constructed with individually controlled cells. A separate water-filled control box monitors each cell. Water enters the control box and flows through pipes to cells.

As the water level in the control box rises, the water level under the court also rises. You control the moisture in the court surface by adjusting the water level in the control box up or down. It's that simple.

Water enters a control box beside the court and flows through a pipe into the panel pipe at the bottom of a cell lined with a polyethylene liner, inside a curb. The pipe sits in washed concrete sand, under a layer of compacted stone screenings and the clay surface. The water level under the court matches the level in the control box.

What is the HydroCourt?

HydroCourt is a self‑regulating, subsurface‑irrigated clay court system that uses a network of water‑filled control boxes and pipes to keep six individual cells evenly moistened beneath the clay surface, delivering consistent play with far less day‑to‑day maintenance than a traditional clay court.

New HydroCourt construction

Why it’s different.

Unlike standard clay courts that rely on manual watering or overhead sprinklers (leading to uneven moisture, dusty patches, and soft spots), the HydroCourt waters the court from below, automatically maintaining a stable water table so the surface stays firm, uniformly moist, and ready for play throughout the day.

Built by Soft Court Services.

Anthony Lopez of Soft Court Services builds and maintains HydroCourts on the West Coast and beyond, drawing on years of working with the system’s original builder, Rick Newby. Visitors who want to discuss new courts, renovations, or maintenance can reach him at Soft Court Services.

Technical specs.

Each HydroCourt is constructed as six subsurface‑irrigated cells running side to side within a curb around the court. A durable polyethylene liner holds the water, panel pipes carry it across each cell, and washed concrete sand forms the bulk of the base so moisture can travel through it. A stabilizing layer of compacted stone screenings supports the clay surface on top, and an adjustable control box for each cell sets the moisture.
